A charity powered by play

Eureka! is an Educational Charity

We believe that every child deserves the chance to learn through play

From babies taking their first curious steps, to teenagers beginning to shape their view of the world: we create spaces where children aged 0–14 can explore, experiment, imagine and grow.

Our experiences are carefully designed to support emotional, intellectual, physical, social and creative development, helping children build confidence, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

Why it matters:

Not every child has equal access to these opportunities, and many face barriers to play-based learning. Our vision is simple: to provide extraordinary opportunities for creative play, discovery and learning in inspirational, sustainable spaces for all children, regardless of background, ability or circumstance.

Our aspiration goes even further, to help children make sense of the world, discover their potential within it, and feel confident in their place in it.

What makes Eureka! different

  • Captivating – we spark imaginations and build confidence through joyful, hands-on discovery
  • Involving – we are for everyone, welcoming every child, every family, every community
  • Expert – our work is grounded in research, child development and co-creation
  • Pioneering – as the UK’s first children’s museum, we continue to lead, innovate and push boundaries

With your support, we can reach more children, remove more barriers, and create more moments of wonder that shape futures. Get in touch if you’d like to discuss opportunities to support our work.

How we’re funded:

How we’re funded:

Eureka! receives no direct government funding

Income from admissions helps us keep our doors open day-to-day, covering staffing and the running of our two sites:

  • Eureka! The National Children’s Museum
Opened in 1992 in Halifax, West Yorkshire
  • Eureka! Science + Discovery
Opened in 2022 on the Wirral, Merseyside.

It’s the support of funders, partners and donors that allows us to go further – to create new spaces, develop innovative experiences, and deliver activities that ignite a lifelong love of learning.

Play it Forward Fund

Access and inclusion sit at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we created the Play it Forward Fund.

Supporters can donate directly to the fund, which covers the cost of visits for children and families who might not otherwise be able to experience Eureka! Working with trusted local charities and social support organisations across Yorkshire and the North West, we ensure these opportunities reach those who need them most.
