Mix and play with Oobleck!

Oobleck. Oowhat? OOBLECK! It's a slime that's both a solid AND a liquid, depending on what you're doing with it, and here's Darren to show you how to make it!

Oobleck (or a non-Newtonian liquid) may just look like, well, slop, but this unique concoction – which gets its name from the Dr. Seuss story “Batholomew and the Oobleck” – is really simple to make, great for sensory play for pre-schoolers and is a fascinating science demonstration – all rolled into one!

You’ll just need three ingredients to make your own Ooblek at home (plus a bowl to mix them in), then have fun trying to work out whether it’s a liquid or a solid!

  • Water
  • Food Colouring
  • Cornflour

Have a go at making your own below with Darren, and have a read of this great article on Wired.com to delve deeper into the science of Oobleck!
